I was with my girl friend on Morro de Sao Paulo, a beautiful island in the bahian atlantic, and we were recommended to take a mud bath at Gamboa
While we enjoyed to relax in the warm tab, I felt like sticking my head into the mud. The mind said: stupid, you cannot open the eyes any more! But I ended up following the desire and when I loved it and when I had to breath again, I started crawling toards the sea with closed eyes, my friend giving directions, laughing...
When I reached the sea, I still did not open the eyes and swam out, until I heard a heavy bump and looked back to the coast. Where we had been was a huge mountain of sand which had fallen down from the hill! No chance to survive for anyone in that tub!! releived I spotted my girl friend in the water. She came after me, but was still hit by the avalanche and had a broken leg and pains all over the body...
Were we lucky or not? So many have taken their bath there and were not hit. But if I had not followed my useless idea of sticking the head into it, we would be both dead...
First we were mad at the people at Morro to not tell the tourists about the danger. But now I think: There is no "take care"!
If you are there at the wrong moment, thats it. In switzerland they would prohibit the whole region to prevent this - thats one of the reason why I moved away from there. And they still have many deads in the mountains every year. Live IS dangerous, lets live it anyway!
